About this Point

Coryell Co, Texas. Clovis point from my personal Collection. It appears the tip had a massive impact fracture but was able to be anciently repaired and would not have even removed from the dart shaft during repointing.

Has a Dwaine Rodgers COA dated 11/5/99 with Comments:
"Found by Nathan Forest. Tip has ancient resharpening"

Clovis

Earliest Paleo Indian at approx. 11,500 RCYBP (9,500 BC).
Calibration adjustments indicates c.13,000 to 13,500 Years BP.

Found over almost all of North America

First reported by Edgar Howard in 1935, associated with bones in type site near Clovis NM. Has since been found with both mammoth and mastodon bones! Lot's of new Clovis Culture discoveries were recently made in Texas at the Gault site in Bell County, Texas.

Ground stem and basal edges. Concave basal edge, fluted on both sides. Use studies at Gault have shown larger examples were used as knives.

Gregory Perino notes many varieties as sub-types.

Turner & Hester notes Clovis as the earliest form known in North America.
