Marshall Graver
Middle Archaic, approx 3,500 yrs BP
Made of beautiful Alibates agatized flint
This point is in Joe Johnston's collection of his Gillespie County points he found on family property in the Pedernales River area.
Notes: Alibates flint (agatized dolmite), from the Texas Panhandle, was one of the most prized materials found in North America. It is almost certain that this was originally a dart point that had an impact fracture or a knife that got broken. This material was simply too rare and beautiful not to be used for something else, so it was turned into a graver for very delicate uses, such as tattoos.
