Angostura Type Point
Paleo Period, Approx 9000 yrs BP
Made of a clear root beer flint that is so sun bleached that it is only semi-translucent.
Personal 1981 find from the Caney Creek area of Sargent Beach in Matagorda Co.
Notes: 9000 years ago the actual beach would have been many, many miles further out than it is today. When I found this point there was a great deal of beach erosion down into the Paleo layer. The Matagorda County museum in Bay City displays several paleo fossil finds from this beach, including a mammoth molar. Recently then there has been an extensive sea wall built to stop the beach erosion.
Before the sea wall was built this area was similar to McFadden beach up the coast, which is designated as an official archaeological site, 41JF50. Most of their artifacts are suspected to actually wash up from camps on what is now the floor of the Gulf of Mexico.
